CONTRACT FOR HORSE TRAINING

I (horse owner), ____________________________ , agree to pay the Smoke family $700/month for horse training, plus $75/month for stall fees, in addition to providing feed for my horse(s) for _____ months. Payment, as detailed on their website at http://SmokeHorseTraining.tripod.com , will be made in advance, for each 14, or 30-day, period, in cash. I agree to a late payment of $10 for any payments more than five days past due, and $25 once payment becomes10 days past due.
The horse owner also understands, and accepts, that should owner fail to pay their bill in a timely manner, or to pick their horse(s) up on time, horse owner will owe $300 for stabling, per horse, without training, plus the cost of feed, if needed, for up to one month, after which time, horse(s) will be turned over to the authorities for sale at Sherrif's auction.
I have read the information on their website, and discussed any questions, concerns, or issues with them, and am satisfied with our arrangement. Working with horses, as I understand, carries no guarantees; however, it is understood that my horse(s) will receive proper care and training over the course of it's stay.
Both parties agree that the Smoke family (trainers) is not liable for death, sickness and/or accident, including consequential damages to horse, unless such death, sickness and/or accident was caused by willful and wanton gross negligence. And, the owner is not liable for death, sickness and/or accident including consequential damages caused by horse, unless owner had knowledge of horse's pre-existing problems which were the direct cause of such.
The Smoke family (trainers) will work horses at the horse's pace, not according to the owner's, or trainers', schedule. In other words, your horse will progress at your horse's speed - not according to what you want accomplished in so many days. This is done out of respect for the horse, and also in regard to producing a gentle, trusting horse.
Training goals will be agreed upon between owners and trainers, as specific horses may have unique and specific needs. In general though, a totally green horse will start with learning to halter properly; to accept it's feet being picked up;  and standing still for grooming, saddling, and mounting. After that, stopping, turning, etc.; or, carrying a rider peacefully, while developing workable lines of communication. Within the allotted time, the horse will learn/progress as much as is prudent.
Spoiled, or abused, horses will need to back-track before beginning at the point an untouched horse would begin at. A horse that was pushed too far, too fast, or otherwise abused by someone who didn't know what they were doing, takes considerably more time to develop than one never touched by human hands.
Bucking a bronc out, or riding them down to the point where they momentarily stop resisting, does not produce a good horse. I didn't learn to start colts by watching western movies. The horse's breeding and brains have to be taken into account; but our method shows respect for the horse, and develops trust and confidence... which turns out a horse you can enjoy.
