CONTRACT FOR HORSE TRAINING

Some things you may not have taken into consideration...

Choose your horse(s) carefully! BEWARE OF SALE BARN HORSES! There are tons of junk horses out there today thanks to the anti-slaughter legislation (what happens when city people legislate country issues). Horses that should be sent to slaughter are being sold in any open venue; which drives good horse prices into the basement! This may sound cruel, but it's fact. Many horses (& humans) should be prevented from breeding, but they aren't. Sick, injured, inbred, excessively spoiled and/or abused, or otherwise undesireable horses are being sold daily to unknowing people. Then, those people expect a trainer to magically turn junk into horse flesh... It just doesn't happen! Sure, with enough time, & patience, some junk horses can be made rideable - but, at what cost?? How much do you want to spend in training & feed, for a $5 horse? Too often, deceitful horse traders Bute up a dangerous horse, sell it to some horse lover, then, when the Bute wears off, the unsuspecting buyer is stuck with an expensive wreck! There are good horses out there! Expect to pay for good breeding, brains, & proper conformation - then, expect it to pay-off in the longrun. If you aren't sure, I am willing to help you choose a horse, if you want (provided I'm paid for my time). You need to be honest with yourself too though... what are you really looking for, & just how much horse can you really handle?? Choose a horse to suit your capabilities & expectations. Make the right choice for yourself, & the horse!
